Following her successful graduation, Sophy can now call herself a commercial employee with a Federal VET Diploma. Danijel has successfully completed his training as a logistics specialist with a Federal VET Diploma. With the completion of their apprenticeships, both have reached an important milestone and laid the foundation for their future professional careers.
Three years filled with experiences and new challenges
During their training, Sophy and Danijel gained valuable insights into various areas of our company. In addition to acquiring the professional knowledge required for their respective occupations, they gradually took on more responsibility and developed both professionally and personally.
During her commercial training, Sophy gained experience in various administrative and organisational tasks. These included, among others, activities in the areas of sales, purchasing, finance and marketing. Throughout her training, she was supported by her vocational trainer, Jana Peterhans.
Danijel completed his training in our logistics department. From goods receiving and warehouse management to order picking and preparing customer orders, he gained an understanding of the diverse processes involved in a logistics operation. His vocational trainer, Florian Emig, supported and accompanied him throughout his entire training period.
Vocational training as an investment in the future
The training of young people plays an important role at CHEMIA BRUGG. As a training company, we aim to provide young people with a successful start to the world of work and give them a solid foundation for their future, both professionally and personally.
At the same time, vocational training also benefits us as a company. Apprentices bring new perspectives, fresh ideas and a great openness to new ways of working and technologies. The regular exchange between experienced employees and young professionals starting their careers also helps to pass on knowledge and preserve it in the long term.
Successful vocational training is always a collective achievement. In addition to the personal motivation and commitment of the apprentices, it requires dedicated vocational trainers as well as employees who share their knowledge, answer questions and support young people in their daily work.

What did you particularly enjoy during your apprenticeship?
What I particularly enjoyed was the variety of my training. Through assignments in different departments, my daily work was very diverse, and I had the opportunity to interact with many different people. In addition, I was able to regularly use my language skills and continue to develop both professionally and personally.
I also have very fond memories of the CHEMIA events we shared, such as the table football tournament or the Christmas dinner with fondue in Baden. These occasions gave me the opportunity to get to know many people from the company better outside of everyday working life.
Which moment are you particularly proud of?
I am particularly proud of successfully completing my apprenticeship and achieving an excellent final grade. My commitment, perseverance and the work I have put in over the past few years have paid off. It is a great feeling to have achieved this goal.
What comes next for you after completing your apprenticeship?
Until the end of October, I will continue to support the sales administration team. Afterwards, I will fulfil a personal wish by embarking on a two-month journey through South America.
In January, I will begin a new chapter in my professional life. The exact direction this will take is still open. I would be particularly interested in a career in the real estate sector.

What I particularly enjoyed was unloading the trucks using the forklift. This allowed me to work independently and take on responsibility. The practical work and operating the forklift gave me a lot of enjoyment and were among the most exciting tasks during my training.
Which moment are you particularly proud of?
I am most proud of successfully completing my apprenticeship. With this achievement, I have reached an important personal goal. It is a great feeling to know that my commitment and the work I put in during my apprenticeship have paid off.
What comes next for you after completing your apprenticeship?
After completing my apprenticeship, I am looking for a new position where I can apply the experience I have gained so far and continue to develop professionally. At the same time, I am exploring suitable continuing education opportunities to expand my professional knowledge and create new perspectives for my future career.

Many shooting ranges in Switzerland have a long history. For decades, shooting took place using natural bullet traps. As a result, projectile residues accumulated in the target area. Lead in particular, but also antimony, built up in the soil over time.
For a long time, the focus was primarily on soil contamination. Contaminated material was identified, assessed and, depending on the situation, either removed or secured. However, as investigations increased, it became clear that the issue could extend further. Pollutants do not always remain where they were originally deposited.
CHEMIA BRUGG is working on a solution for contaminated water streams originating from the surroundings of shooting ranges. At the centre of this approach is the specially processed iron oxide Sb51. It is not just any iron oxide, but a material with specifically engineered properties for the removal of antimony and other metals from contaminated water.
When soil contamination becomes a water problem
Rainwater infiltrates through the bullet trap and comes into contact with contaminated soil. In the process, substances from projectile residues can be dissolved and transported further. Antimony is of particular concern because it can be more mobile than lead.
This creates contaminated seepage water. Depending on the site conditions, soil composition and water flow patterns, this water may migrate towards groundwater or be carried away through drainage systems.
As a result, historical soil contamination also becomes a matter of water protection. Shooting ranges must therefore be assessed as an integrated system. Not only the soil is relevant, but also the water pathway.
Pressure for remediation is increasing
Many shooting ranges are already listed in the register of contaminated sites. Numerous sites have been investigated or remediated in recent years. More will follow.
The Swiss Confederation has set a clear timeframe. In order for remediation measures to continue benefiting from VASA funding, they must be completed by the end of 2045 at the latest.
For municipalities, this provides planning certainty but also creates pressure to act. Remediation projects require preliminary investigations, coordination with specialist authorities, technical concepts and careful implementation. Those who wait too long risk bottlenecks in planning, permitting, execution and cost control.
Remediation does not automatically mean excavation alone
At shooting ranges, remediation is often associated with the excavation and replacement of contaminated soil. In many cases, this is both appropriate and necessary.
At the same time, it is worth taking a closer look at the water pathway.
When contaminated water can be collected or controlled, an additional technical treatment option becomes available. In this case, contamination is not addressed solely through large-scale earthworks, but directly within the affected water stream.
On-site water treatment does not fundamentally replace soil excavation. However, it can be a valuable component of a remediation strategy where the water stream is technically accessible.
Why on-site treatment is an option
On-site treatment addresses contaminated water streams at the point where they originate or can be captured. This may include seepage water, drainage water, sludge water or other aqueous media.
The key advantage is its proximity to the source of contamination. This allows the water pathway to be integrated directly into the remediation concept. Depending on the situation, transport requirements, material handling and downstream efforts can be reduced.
A site-specific assessment remains essential in every case.
Also relevant for waste management and treatment companies
Not every remediation project ends at the shooting range itself. When contaminated soil is excavated, it must, depending on the level of contamination, be disposed of, treated or processed.
During wet processing, lead and antimony may transfer into the process water. This creates an additional water stream that must be assessed and, where necessary, treated.
Here too, targeted treatment can be beneficial. Not as a replacement for soil treatment, but as an additional treatment stage for contaminated wash water or process water.
CHEMIA BRUGG offers a solution
CHEMIA BRUGG supports customers in the technical assessment of contaminated water streams. At the centre of this approach is the specially processed iron oxide Sb51, which can bind antimony and lead within the water stream.
Field trials have confirmed the effectiveness of the approach. Various universities of applied sciences independently reached comparable conclusions.
This approach is not a standard solution for every site. It is a technical option that should be evaluated within the context of each individual project.
When an assessment may be worthwhile
An initial assessment may be worthwhile where contaminated water plays a role in a project and can be technically captured. The key consideration is whether the water stream can be treated in a targeted manner and meaningfully integrated into the existing remediation concept.
Relevant questions include, for example:
- Is antimony or lead detectable within the water pathway?
- Can the contaminated water stream be captured or controlled?
- What volumes are involved?
- What is the composition of the water stream?
- How can a treatment stage be integrated into the existing remediation or treatment concept?
- What requirements are imposed by authorities, specialist planners and other project stakeholders?
The next step
CHEMIA BRUGG supports municipalities, remediation contractors, planners, as well as waste management and treatment companies in the initial technical assessment.
Together, it can be evaluated whether the treatment of seepage water, drainage water, sludge water or wash water can be meaningfully integrated into the respective project.
The aim is a realistic assessment. Not every facility and not every site is equally suitable. However, where the water stream can be technically captured, treatment using the specially processed iron oxide Sb51 may represent an attractive option for managing lead and antimony.
Frequently Asked Questions about Shooting Range Remediation
Lead and antimony originate from projectile residues that have accumulated in bullet traps over decades. Lead accounts for the largest share of the contamination. Antimony is particularly relevant because it can be more readily mobilised under certain conditions.
Rainwater can percolate through contaminated soil and, over time, dissolve substances from projectile residues. Depending on the soil conditions, site characteristics and water flow patterns, contaminated seepage water may reach groundwater or surface waters.
Shooting ranges can constitute contaminated sites. This is particularly relevant where they are located directly above groundwater resources. If lead or antimony pose a risk to soil, groundwater or surface waters, remediation measures must be assessed and implemented where necessary.
Remediation measures at shooting ranges must be completed by the end of 2045 at the latest in order to remain eligible for VASA funding provided by the Swiss Confederation.
Not necessarily. On-site treatment is a potential complementary element within a remediation strategy. It is particularly beneficial where contaminated seepage water, drainage water or sludge water can be captured and treated in a targeted manner.

When choosing a disinfectant, not only the active substance matters, but also its form. Calcium hypochlorite has been proven in swimming pool water treatment for many years. For practical use, however, the key factor is how well the product can be handled, dosed, and integrated into existing systems.

With conventionally produced granules, the particles are usually formed either through granulation or by crushing larger product pieces. In this process, fine particles are bonded together to form larger granules, or a solid product is crushed and sieved afterwards to achieve the desired particle size. Depending on the manufacturing method, particle size, shape, and fine content may vary more significantly. This can affect flowability, dust formation, and dosing performance.
In the extrusion process, by contrast, the product mass is pressed under pressure through a shaping opening. In simplified terms, it can be compared to the way a pasta machine works. The material is then processed to the desired granule size and dried. This creates a more uniform granule structure with a reduced proportion of fine particles. The individual granules are more consistent, compact, and dimensionally stable.
The result is a low-dust granule with excellent flowability and reliable dosing characteristics. For public swimming pools and professional dosing systems, this means less dust during handling, a lower tendency to cake, and more consistent dosing during operation.

Biogas plants make an important contribution to sustainable energy production. In Switzerland, more than 200 plants are in operation, processing manure, slurry, food waste, vegetable waste, and other organic residues. This produces biogas, which can be used to generate heat or electricity. However, depending on the process and the substrates used, the requirements for the process can vary significantly.
This is exactly where CHEMIA BRUGG can provide support. With a broad range of acids, alkalis, iron chlorides and activated carbons, we cover key areas related to the operation of biogas plants and help to keep processes stable and efficient.
An important aspect is the pH regulation in the fermenter. If overacidification occurs, corrective action must be taken to ensure that the biological processes remain in balance. Depending on the process and substrate used, different products may be applied, such as calcium carbonate, Natronlauge 30 % or Natronlauge 50 %. We can also supply liquid media directly by tanker truck.
We also offer suitable solutions for the binding of hydrogen sulfide and for desulfurization. Here, products such as iron(II) chloride and iron(III) chloride are used to specifically bind sulfur compounds and improve gas quality.
Another important area is the binding of ammonia as well as pH stabilization in digestate treatment. Suitable products include sulfuric acid 96 % and sulfuric acid 78 %. These liquid media can also be delivered by tanker truck if required.
In addition, gas treatment also plays an important role. For the remaining removal of hydrogen sulfide as well as siloxanes, possible volatile hydrocarbons and impurities, activated carbons are used, partly in impregnated form. We calculate which activated carbon with which surface area is best suited for the respective system. We also determine whether powdered activated carbon, granular activated carbon or pellets are the most suitable solution.
Our strength lies not only in a broad product range, but also in the flexibility of supply. We have all relevant raw materials available, offer them in various container sizes and can also deliver acids and alkalis in customer-specific quantities.
Ultimately, the right solution depends on the individual plant. Whether alkali or acid is more suitable for pH stabilization depends heavily on the process and the substrates used. In the case of food waste, alkali is generally preferred, whereas slurry usually requires acid.
Anyone who wants to operate biogas plants economically and reliably needs more than standard products. What is required are tailored solutions, reliable delivery capability and a partner who understands the processes.
Biogas is produced through the fermentation of organic materials in the absence of oxygen. Raw materials such as manure, slurry, food waste or plant residues are used. These materials are collected, processed, shredded and mixed into the most homogeneous mass possible.
The material is then transferred into a fermenter. There, microorganisms break down the organic substances in several biological steps. This process is known as anaerobic digestion. During this process, biogas is produced, consisting mainly of methane (CH₄) and carbon dioxide (CO₂).
The resulting biogas can be used for energy generation, for example to produce electricity and heat, or it can be upgraded to biomethane. The so-called digestate remains as a by-product and can often be reused as fertilizer.

A year full of events is slowly drawing to an end. As lights shine brighter everywhere and the pace slows down a little, we look back with gratitude on a year marked by significant achievements for CHEMIA BRUGG.
In February, for example, we had the pleasure of welcoming numerous professionals to the seminar day for public swimming pools in Lenzburg. The event was very well received and provided a valuable platform for practical presentations and professional exchange within the industry.
A major project was the comprehensive modernisation of our tank storage facility in Brugg. New plastic and stainless-steel tanks, optimised processes, and a partially doubled storage capacity strengthen our supply security and create a future-oriented infrastructure.
With the new HTH care line for automatic dosing systems, we achieved another milestone. For the first time, this line is produced directly in Brugg, highlighting HTH’s trust in our quality and expertise, and making pool maintenance even easier for our customers.
Also noteworthy is our industry event, the X-PERIENCE-DAY 2025, where pool specialists gained valuable insights into current topics such as water treatment, energy efficiency, and safe pool technology.
With these and other key moments in mind, we enter our well-deserved year-end break. Our company will be closed from 12:00 on 24 December 2025 until 2 January 2026. This short break gives us and our employees the opportunity to rest and enjoy the holiday season.

The management of CHEMIA BRUGG AG
PFAS, the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are among the greatest challenges of modern water treatment. For decades, these compounds have been used in industry, commerce, and countless everyday products. They can be found in firefighting foams, waterproofing agents, paints, cleaning agents, coatings, textiles, cookware, and even in food packaging.
The reason for their widespread use lies in their exceptional properties: PFAS are water-, oil-, and dirt-repellent and are also extremely chemically stable. However, this very stability means they hardly degrade in the environment. Once released, PFAS can persist for decades or even centuries in soils, sediments, and water, accumulating in plants, animals, and ultimately in the human body.
Studies show that certain PFAS compounds may have health-relevant effects. They are suspected of interfering with the hormonal system, stressing the liver, and weakening the immune system. The European Union and Switzerland are therefore actively working on stricter limits and comprehensive bans.
For water suppliers and wastewater treatment plant operators, this means that the removal of PFAS is increasingly becoming a mandatory requirement to safeguard drinking water quality and comply with legal regulations.

Our solutions are based on a modular treatment concept that can be individually combined depending on the situation.
- Filter media based on activated carbon primarily bind long-chain PFAS compounds, which are particularly persistent and difficult to degrade.
- Special ion-exchange resins remove PFAS ranging from long-chain to ultra-short-chain, depending on the resin type. Due to their high mobility, these compounds would otherwise remain easily in the water.
This combination enables a sustainable reduction of PFAS contamination – both in drinking water treatment and in wastewater effluents.

The interior structure also impresses – our proven double I-beam technology ensures stability under load, while corrosion-resistant stainless steel (Type 316) guarantees long-term safety in all water environments.

The HTH® product line for automatic dosing systems.
Once properly set, the water stays balanced. For many pool professionals, the use of automatic measurement and control technology is already standard. What counts are reliable products that work seamlessly with the systems.
With the new liquid line, HTH® fills a previous gap in its product range and now offers suitable solutions for automatic dosing. These are available immediately from CHEMIA.
Whether it’s pH regulation or reliable chlorination: the three new concentrates have been specifically developed for use in dosing systems and can be dosed directly from their supply container.
Overview of the new HTH® products
HTH® pH-
Acid liquid concentrate for lowering pH, developed for use in dosing systems.

- Direct dosing from the container
To lower the pH by 0.2, approximately 20 ml per m³ is required. The ideal pH range is between 7.0 and 7.4.
Introduce undiluted via a dosing pump. The recommended dosages are calculated based on water with average characteristics (pH and total alkalinity) and may vary significantly depending on actual water parameters.
HTH® pH+
Alkaline liquid concentrate for raising pH, developed for use in dosing systems.

- Direct dosing from the container
To raise the pH by 0.2, approximately 20 ml per m³ is required. The ideal pH range is between 7.0 and 7.4.
Introduce undiluted via a dosing pump. The recommended dosages are calculated based on water with average characteristics (pH and total alkalinity) and may vary significantly depending on actual water parameters.
HTH® Liquichlor 15
Chlorine-based solution with a specific hardness stabiliser to prevent limescale deposits at dosing points.
- Special hardness stabiliser reduces the risk of blockage from lime precipitation
- Easy to use, can be dosed directly from the supply container via a dosing system
For fresh fills or shock treatments: Use approximately 5–10 ml per m³ every 2–4 days.
For continuous dosing: Adjust dosing so that at least 0.3 mg/l of free chlorine is measurable at the pool outlet. In case of cloudy or green water: Add 200 ml per 10 m³; if no improvement is seen after 24 hours, repeat the process.
Apply undiluted via the dosing system or manually (e.g. for shock treatment), evenly over the water surface while circulation is running.
